📃Calenberg gives guest lecture at the Technical University of Munich

On 23 June, Calenberg was invited by the Technical University of Munich to give a 90-minute lecture "vibration control" as part of a series of lectures in the advanced study programme.

The aim was to provide 👩‍🎓👨‍🎓civil engineering students with an insight into the practical applications of elastomeric elements in track superstructure. In the presence of Prof. Stephan Freudenberg and PhD Walter Stahl, Werner Koch (Losheim site) began by explaining how elements between the rail and the sleeper (rail pads and base plate pads) not only contribute to smoother and therefore quieter train Operation 🚆🚈, but also improve maintenance costs and durability. This was followed by a detailed analysis of why these products are made from closed-cell EPDM. Nikolas Jüngel (Salzhemmendorf site) then explained the significant difference between a simple manual calculation and a complex train passage simulation programme, and why the conical stud mats (e.g. USM 1000 W) must have precisely this profile in order to guarantee the same level of vibration protection for all trains in mixed traffic. 📢Calenberg would like to thank all the participating students for their keen interest, as well as the teaching staff for the invitation.
